Born at Bala, Merionethshire, and educated in an elementary school there. Emigrating to the U.S.A. in 1825, he became a merchant in New York and, in time, secretary of the S. David’s Charitable Society. He took the prize at the Abergavenny eisteddfod of 1837, for elegiac englynion on Thomas Price (Carnhuanawc); he also won prizes for poems submitted to eisteddfodau in the U.S.A. Many of his poetical compositions are printed in Y Cyfaill, Y Cenhadwr Americanaidd, etc. He died in New York, 28 January 1868.
